When it comes to the residential plumbing world, it’s safe to say most homeowners have two primary goals. First off, they want everything to be functional. They want the water heater to deliver hot water when needed. They want the garbage disposal to chew up those smaller food particles. They want the drains to function at normal speeds and so on. The second goal is for it to also look good. While not every plumbing component is exposed, there are a handful that everyone will see. And if you’re embarking on either a complete remodel or just modernizing some features, you’re going to want plumbing fixtures that fit the mold. Whether that be faucets, sinks, freestanding tubs, toilets or anything else, you’ll quickly notice there is a wide range of products available at varying price points and styles.
For those that have read some of our prior blog posts, you likely know that one of the topics we cover revolves around remodeling tips. That could mean ‘inside looks’ at various brands we recommend, estimated life spans for different components or a number of other topics. Having said that, this week’s blog is going to solely be focused on the bathroom. The bathroom undoubtedly includes quite a few plumbing elements. We’ll touch on some ways in which you can improve the overall look of your bathroom. Some of these may be easy changes you can knock out on a Saturday morning, while others might require the help of professionals. In any case, let’s dive right in and see what you could potentially do to your own bathroom!
Fresh Coat of Paint
I’m guessing most of you thought we would kick this one off with a plumbing component. Ironically though, one of the easiest ways to make a big difference in the bathroom is simply with a brand new paint job. Particularly if you previously had a dated color or wallpaper applied, this can be the perfect way to give it a new look and feel. Before tackling this type of project, make sure you’re prepared though. While it may sound straightforward, you’ll have a lot of elements to work around and definitely don’t want this turning into a never-ending project!
New Faucets
Recently this year, we posted a few different blogs under a series we called “Who’s Who in Plumbing Brands.” This blog series gave an overview of various companies/manufacturers that are big in the plumbing world. If you checked out any of these posts, you’ll notice there was no shortage of faucet brands. Over the years, the faucet industry has become increasingly competitive and as such, has provided consumers with plenty of options to pick from. Delta, Kohler, Moen, American Standard, Pfister, the list goes on!
So, in terms of improving the look of your bathroom, upgrading the faucets can be a rather inexpensive way of doing so, while still making a significant improvement. Trust us, it’s not hard to tell the difference between modern-day faucets and ones that have clearly been around for awhile. To add to it, with so many options available, you can find something that matches the overall vibe/theme of your bathroom.
Freestanding Bathtub
As I mentioned in the opening paragraphs, a bathroom renovation can range from swapping out a few features here and there, to making major changes. One of these possible ‘major’ changes could be installing a freestanding tub. Generally speaking, this renovation is going to take a little more effort on the plumbing side of things, but it can definitely have a huge impact. While freestanding tubs have been around for awhile, there’s no denying that the trend has picked up steam over the last few years. From personal experience, here at Stine-Nichols Plumbing, we have received a number of inquiries in the past year alone and have seen them become very popular throughout the Kansas City area.
So, if you’re looking to hop on one of the latest trends, a freestanding tub might be just what you’re looking for! Interested in a free quote for having one installed at your own home? Don’t Forget About the Small Stuff
Evidenced throughout this blog, you’re likely starting to see that there are plenty of ways to improve your bathroom without tearing down walls and turning it into a full construction site. Yet another idea to add to your list is focusing on a few of the minor changes. Upgrade the shower curtains. Throw out the old rugs and get new ones in there. Change out the mirror above your sink. Add in new shelving and display seasonal decor on it. This is just part of the list of easy upgrades you can make that will still certainly modernize the space. For those that may be on a budget, but still want a breath of fresh air, take a look around your bathroom and see if any of these features haven’t been replaced for a few years. Remember, home improvement projects don’t always have to be a major investment in terms of monetary amounts.
Complete Remodel
As we’ve hinted at throughout this blog, bathroom remodeling is available at any budget. For those that need some serious work done and have the budget to make it happen, a complete remodel is likely going to be the way to go. A complete remodel essentially means you can make any changes that you want. You can change the overall layout for the space. You can relocate the locations of the existing fixtures and probably install modern fixtures in their place. You can reroute electrical lines to meet the needs of the new set-up. Long story short, as long you hire the right contractors for the job, there really are no limits as to what a bathroom remodel can include. While we can make some of the minor changes (like swapping out faucets), our team is also prepared to help out with more extensive renovations as well. It all depends on what the customer has envisioned for the space!
