While we often highlight plumbing tips for residential homeowners here on our blog, another aspect of our business involves new construction projects. Whether that be office buildings, restaurants, local businesses or anything else, this really is the perfect example of seeing a transformation from the ground up. These typically take place all over the Kansas City area and truly are always unique in their own right! Depending on how long you’ve been following our blog, you may have seen some prior before & after posts like this. Here are a couple of our recent favorites:
St. Pius X High School Football Field – For any football fans out there, you’re going to want to check this one out. St. Pius renovated their entire football field and turned it into a state-of-the-art complex. From the turf field and the new locker rooms behind the end zone to the beautiful bleachers and everything else, this definitely was a fun one to see take shape!
The Iron District – Located just down the street from our offices in North Kansas City, the Iron District is a food and entertainment area built out of shipping containers. From start-to-finish, this was another amazing transformation. If you’re ever looking for a cool spot to grab a bite to eat, consider checking them out in North Kansas City! We’re always happy to support other local businesses in the Northland, so don’t hesitate to click HERE to learn more.
Laundromat #1 – If you want to get a preview of what you can expect in this blog post, feel free to check out this laundromat renovation our team worked on back in 2019. From the initial saw cuts to the final fixture installations, you’ll notice many similarities between this one and the one featured below.
As we hinted at above, today’s “Before & After” blog post will walk you through another laundromat renovation. Taking over a vacant building, you’ll be amazed by the difference made in the finished product. Having said all of that, let’s hop right in and take a trip down memory lane from this 2021 remodel.
Construction is Underway!
As I briefly mentioned in the opening paragraphs, this laundromat renovation project was certainly going to provide for quite the “before and after!” The existing building was vacant and definitely in need of some TLC to get it turned into a presentable and functioning business.
Early on in the summer of 2021, our team was ready to get this one started! After mapping out where all of the piping would be ahead of time, our next step was to begin the process of saw-cutting the flooring and then getting underway with the ground rough-in.
Copper Piping for Washing Machines
As you can probably guess, with the number of washing machines that would soon be installed in this space, there was going to be plenty of copper piping throughout.
Not to mention, at this stage in the project, you’ll also notice the flooring had been poured and some of the walls were going up as well!
Setting the Vault
Not long after the photos above, our team’s next task involved setting the vault (behind the building) that would be responsible for housing the backflow preventer and water service lines.
For those unfamiliar with the term “backflow preventer,” you’re more than welcome to check out our blog post covering the topic HERE. No matter if it be a residential house, commercial business or any other type of building, they all have water supply lines that bring clean water for you to use. However, these are only designed to flow in one direction. When something goes wrong though and this isn’t the case, that’s what we call backflow! Unsurprisingly, backflow preventers are installed on your pipes and responsible for keeping any backflow from occurring. Thus, that’s a major reason why backflow preventers and routine testing are now generally requirements for buildings.
Another Construction Project in the Books
And before you know it, laundromat #2 is a wrap! If you want to check out the making of the first one, click HERE to check out our blog post following along on that one. Nonetheless, our final stop on this renovation journey will be shortly before it’s grand opening and as the finishing touches are being applied.
Of course, a clean and professional-looking bathroom is a must as well! We LOVE how this tile blends perfectly with these new fixtures.
As we head back into the main area, there’s no doubt that a huge transformation has been made! What a difference!
Before we wrap this blog up though, we couldn’t ignore the Elkay drinking fountain! They continue to be an industry leader in the drinking fountain world and produce products we feel confident recommending to our clients!
Live Footage from this Project
Without a doubt, it’s always fun to look back on projects after they’ve been fully completed and this laundromat is no different. If you follow us on Instagram, you’ve likely seen some of our prior Reels that give behind-the-scenes look at many of our different jobs. We were actually able to film a few different ones from this laundromat renovation. Click HERE to check out all of the Instagram Reels we currently have posted. By the way, you’re definitely going to want to check out the one where our service technician, Mike, is doing some final investigative work prior to the rough-in getting underway. It includes the mapping out for the saw cuts, as well as running the sewer camera for an inspection of the existing lines.
