If you check out any of our previous blog posts, you’ll likely start to notice a handful of common themes. You’ll find that plumbing fixtures are mentioned on many occasions and in particular, we highlight various tips for ensuring you purchase quality fixtures! You’ll find that different maintenance tasks are emphasized for both homeowners and commercial facility managers. After all, who wants to spend more time and money (than they absolutely have to) on plumbing projects? To sum it up, there are certainly a variety of things that you need to be aware of when it comes to managing your plumbing system and through our plumbing blog, we look to simplify that!
Now…that leads us into the topic of this week’s blog post. Given that plumbing issues can vary in terms of severity, it should come as no surprise that some projects require a more urgent response than others. For example, if your water heater stops working, you probably don’t want to leave that one unfixed for weeks or even more than a day, right? Even though the smaller repairs might not require as immediate of a response, that doesn’t mean you want to ignore them completely (despite it being extremely easy to do just that!). In this week’s blog post, we’re going to take a look at a few of the plumbing repairs that tend to become prone to procrastination most frequently! Keep in mind that many of these can be fixed relatively quickly, so there really is no reason to procrastinate on them. Let’s discuss!
Running Toilet
To get things started, we’ll begin with a plumbing problem that I think most people have likely experienced at one time or another and that is the running toilet. Given that the running toilet would likely fall under that category of “small plumbing repairs,” it is definitely the perfect fit for this blog post. While it’s easy to procrastinate on getting a running toilet fixed because it doesn’t seem to be a major issue, the truth is the longer it sits unfixed, the more water it’ll end up wasting and you could even see your water bill increase as a result of this. Keep in mind that the severity of the leak will dictate how much of a jump you actually have in your water bill, but the main point remains true.
A big reason why we chose to include it with this week’s blog post is due to the fact that it can often be fixed relatively easily. While the leak could be a result of a few different things and having some general knowledge of the anatomy of a toilet can help immensely, it can sometimes be fixed simply by replacing the toilet’s flapper, which acts as a seal between the tank and bowl. All in all, it’s the perfect example of a plumbing repair that is easy to procrastinate on!
Leaking Faucet
Next on our list is another item that many people have likely witnessed and that is a faucet which seems to slowly leak/drip. As was the case with the running toilet, from an outside perspective, a leaking faucet probably won’t appear to be an overly pressing issue. After all, how much water can it actually waste? While it may not make a drastic difference on your water bill, why even waste that money when it can be fixed?
Before we continue on with plumbing repairs that tend to be procrastinated, let’s take a quick look at what causes a leaky faucet in the first place. Similar to the running toilet that we discussed above, it will certainly be helpful to have an understanding of what’s what and where the issue may reside. The washers could suffer from wear and tear, thus leading to a leak. If the O-ring happens to deteriorate, then you may start to see a leak. Not to mention, if you have a faucet that seems to repeatedly leak or have issues pop up, it may even be worth it to simply look into replacing it altogether.
Slow Drain
Have you ever had a drain that seems to run much slower than normal? If so, you’re definitely not alone! As a plumbing company, it goes without saying that our technicians complete numerous drain cleaning service calls throughout the year. Take a bathtub or shower drain for example. Over time, there are a variety of things that can accumulate and ultimately have a negative impact on the speed at which your shower or bathtub drain runs. No surprises there! Soap scum, hair, dirt, the list goes on. And as long as that clog doesn’t result in a complete back-up, this is definitely something that is easy to put on the backburner and simply worry about at a later date, right?
Rather than wait for the clog to get more severe and hope that it fixes itself on its own, why not call in your local plumbing professional to get it cleared up? To add to it, if you also have any other drains in your home or commercial facility that also seem to be slower than normal, this could be the perfect opportunity to get everything resolved with one service call! In the end, once the drain is cleaned up, I’m sure you’ll appreciate having it back to a normal draining speed!
Water Pressure Issues
As we wrap up this week’s blog post, the final item that we wanted to discuss are issues with water pressure. Whether that be too high of water pressure or too low, it’s safe to say that there are negatives associated with each. When you’re dealing with water pressure, it’s important to acknowledge that there are a number of things which could be causing these issues. Furthermore, you’ll want to confirm whether the issue is present throughout the entire house/building or whether it is situated with one fixture specifically.
In addition, while this blog post is focused on plumbing repairs that are easy to procrastinate on, we would like to note that some water pressure issues will be significant enough that you almost definitely won’t want to wait to get them fixed by an experienced plumber. However, some smaller repairs like a clogged faucet aerator, which may create the appearance of low water pressure, is something that can be easily fixed by the homeowner or facility manager. In the end, we felt like water pressure problems were the perfect way to cap off this blog post!
