Let’s take a moment to talk about bathroom remodeling. It goes without saying that a bathroom remodel is a popular home improvement project that many homeowners embark on. After all, it can help modernize the space (which you’re sure to enjoy) and it can even improve the value of your home too! With that being the case, it’s no surprise why it is so popular! Given that your plumbing system is intertwined throughout many aspects of the bathroom, you’re likely not surprised that we have our fair share of experience when it comes to bathroom remodeling.

With that introduction in-place, you can probably guess what this week’s blog post is going to be about. We’re going to be breaking down a component that is included in plenty of remodeling projects and that happens to be the bathroom vanity. Our team has installed more than a few bathroom vanities over the years and feel confident in our ability to help guide customers through the selection process. Throughout this week’s blog post, we’ll do just that and help you in finding the perfect bathroom vanity for your home!

Before we get started with that though, we would first like to welcome any first-time visitors to our plumbing blog. Welcome to Stine-Nichols Plumbing! We are a plumbing business located in North Kansas City, MO that offers residential, commercial and new construction services throughout the Kansas City area. As you can likely guess, our plumbing blog is intended to provide homeowners and commercial facility managers with resources as they look to better understand their plumbing systems.

Now it’s time to discuss how you can find the perfect bathroom vanity for your home!

Bathroom Vanity Tip #1: Consider the Different Styles/Sizes First

When you begin the process of finding a bathroom vanity, you’ll quickly notice there are no shortage of options out there. Different styles, types, brands, colors, you get the idea! In order to make the process less overwhelming, you’ll want to be able to filter out potential options to the style you want first. After all, depending on where the bathroom vanity will be installed, everyone’s layout could be different. What are some of your options as to the different sizes/styles?

Single Sink or Double Sink – Without a doubt, one variable that will impact the actual size of a bathroom vanity is whether it has one sink or two. No surprises there! Chances are your decision here will be dependent on the square footage of the bathroom, as well as if it will be installed in your master bathroom or a secondary bathroom. Nonetheless, you’ll want to measure the space you have available for the vanity.

Countertops – There are definitely numerous stylistic elements to a bathroom vanity purchase and one that will be quite impactful is the countertops. However, when you consider available products, you’ll recognize there are vanities with AND without countertops included. It could be more cost-effective to purchase an all-in-one, but we can also see how homeowners could want to customize their countertop selection as well. In any case, you’ll want to confirm this prior to making a pick!

Cabinetry – Next on our list of vanity elements is the cabinets, which can add to the stylistic capabilities of a vanity (along with the functionality too). It can certainly be a nice bonus to have room for storing towels, wash cloths, and cleaning supplies. Additionally, you can also decide between vanities with open cabinets and those with doors. That argument can be in favor of having cabinets included, but there are also options for those without cabinetry too! After all, not having cabinets could create a more simplistic appearance! This is simply another variable that will come down to personal preference (and also the bathroom in which it’ll be installed).

Floating or Freestanding – Another quality that we wanted to highlight in regards to vanity styles is the difference between floating and freestanding options. Freestanding bathroom vanities are the more common of the two and typically will be easier to install too. With these, you’ll have the choice to either have it stand on its own (hence the term, freestanding) or also caulk it to the wall. In both situations though, it will be standing on the ground. The alternative to that (a floating bathroom vanity) is attached to the wall. As you can probably guess, this installation will take a little more work than its counterpart.

Style – Before we continue onto the next section, we wanted to take a moment to emphasize the role of style in the purchasing process as well. When it comes to bathroom vanity style, there are a few things to take into consideration. The color of the vanity base, countertops and sink will likely be what grabs your attention first. These will be the qualities that allow you to ensure everything in the space meshes together. Along with that though, you’ll also want to think about the overall theme you’re hoping to achieve. Are you striving for a modern appearance or a traditional style? Are you going for simplicity or a certain color pattern? To sum it up, the overall style will be something that sways your decision!

Bathroom Vanity Tip #2: Don’t Discount the Role of the Faucet

As you can likely imagine, faucets are a plumbing fixture that our team works with repeatedly throughout the year. Whether it be repairing existing ones, installing new faucets or even providing advice on how to maintain your faucets, there is plenty to talk about. When it comes time to purchase your new bathroom vanity, you’ll notice that not all vanities come with a faucet included. For those that do, this will help simplify the selection process. However, for those that don’t include a faucet, this can be a benefit too. Ultimately, it will give you more flexibility from a design perspective. Not to mention, we often highlight the importance of finding a faucet that not only looks great, but also is durable enough to not break down from the daily wear and tear. And when it comes to finding a reliable faucet, a great starting point will be searching for faucets made by reliable brands. All in all, you can’t talk about bathroom vanities without also mentioning the role the faucet plays in the overall selection!
