As we head into the 2025 year, I’m going to guess plumbing might not be on the top of your mind right now. Nonetheless, as a plumbing company, we always like to utilize our blog as a resource for homeowners and facility managers looking to better understand their plumbing system. After all, the more familiarity you have with your plumbing system and know the ins and outs of the different components, the better off you’ll be in limiting the potential issues and likely also possess the ability to have a more efficient plumbing system too.

Looking ahead to the next year, we’re going to utilize this week’s blog post to help you add a few plumbing tasks to your 2025 to-do list. Some of these might already be listed on your yearly to-do list, which is definitely a good thing! However, if there are any that you haven’t previously considered, hopefully this blog post will be of assistance. With that all being said, what are a few plumbing tasks worth having on your 2025 plumbing to-do list?

Flush Your Water Heater

When it comes to the various components and fixtures of your plumbing system, I’m going to guess that you would prefer to get the maximum number of years out of each one, right? After all, you likely don’t want to find yourself consistently investing in plumbing repairs and/or replacements. And considering the water heater is one of the more expensive components, we’ll kick off this week’s blog post focusing on it. Since Kansas City is home to hard water, you’ll notice that hard water is something which is mentioned fairly routinely on our plumbing blog. There’s a reason why water softeners have been quite popular among many of our customers here in KC.

With that in mind, it’s important to note that hard water can also pose some challenges to your water heater. In particular, the mineral build-up that can occur is capable of forcing your water heater to work harder to perform its normal responsibilities. Safe to say this is something you would like to avoid if possible! One way in which you can limit this damage is to add a water heater flush to your to-do list. Flushing your water heater will help clear out this build-up, thus allowing your water heater to operate in a more effective manner.

Upgrade Faucets

A common theme that you’ll notice with several plumbing fixtures is the fact that they are used quite often and typically on a daily basis. A perfect example of one would be faucets, which surely receive their fair share of wear and tear throughout the year. Having said that, there are a couple of different points that I wanted to highlight with this section. First off, say that you would like to keep your existing faucets. Maybe they’re not all that old to begin with or simply aren’t experiencing any issues. Regardless of their current state, if you’re wanting to make an improvement to the existing faucets in 2025, think of ways to incorporate better maintenance and/or cleaning practices. We just discussed how hard water could cause trouble to your water heater, but for this section, we would like to note how they can also be troublesome for the faucets too as the calcium build-up can create the illusion of low water pressure (when in reality, it is just a clogged aerator). The solution? Soak the faucet aerator in vinegar to remove the mineral deposits. In addition, some routine cleaning of the faucet can also work wonders in maintaining a professional appearance. There are certain finishes (like chrome) that tend to be more susceptible to fingerprints and water spots. So, depending on what type of faucets you currently have, that may be something worth focusing on too!

Looking to upgrade any of the faucets in your home or commercial facility? If so, it goes without saying that a faucet upgrade is always worth it. For one, it will instantly provide an aesthetic boost to the area and if it didn’t already do so, this can be a great time to ensure it matches each of the other elements in the room (sink, countertops, backsplash, etc). Plus, it won’t require as significant of an investment in comparison to other plumbing upgrades. Another reason why a faucet upgrade can be a worthwhile project is because of the plethora of options to pick from. Whether it be the finish, style, type, brand or even additional features, the faucet shopping process can be a fun one!

Check Out Smart Plumbing Features

To finish up this blog post, we’ll discuss an item that might not be considered as much of a “necessity,” but is still something we recommend checking out. As can be said about plenty of other industries, technology has also impacted the plumbing world in more ways than one. While these technological advancements have offered a number of advantages, it finds its place on this blog post because of the cool smart fixtures currently on the market. What are some examples of smart plumbing fixtures? Smart toilets are something that you may have previously heard of. With features like heated seats, built-in deodorizers and more, these can definitely be a neat item to add to your plumbing system. In the faucet part that we just discussed, we mentioned how there are more than a few faucet options to choose from. Well…to add to that, it’s also worth pointing out that smart faucets are a thing and the voice-activated features some of them provide can be a gamechanger in the kitchen!

Smart faucets and smart toilets are likely two that most people have heard of. However, smart plumbing components consist of more items than just those! One final example that we’ll leave you with is Moen’s Flo Smart Water Monitor & Shutoff. Essentially, this device will allow you to have better insights of your water usage and even detect when leaks arise (in addition to other benefits). Definitely another great example of plumbing innovation!
